As some of you may know we took a trip back to the Midwest for my cousin, Jerry’s wedding in Dubuque IA. Due to the distance we chose to make it into a 5 day mini vacation. We left Thursday afternoon and drove about half way to Paducah KY. We drove the rest of the way Friday and arrived later in the afternoon around the same time as my parents (Bridget & Larry). On the drive there we got to see firsthand how parts of the midwest were flooded. You really can’t imagine it until you have the chance to see it in person. Once we arrived in Dubuque we spent time hanging out with my mother's family (the O’Connell side) on Friday evening.
On Saturday, myself, two of my cousins, my dad and one of my uncles decided to go golfing. So we were up at 6:30am to hint the links by 7am. It was interesting to say the least. I was told on the first hole someone put a shot right into some one's back yard; guess they were looking to see if they were serving breakfast, right Patrick?? Eventually we made it back in time to change and off we were to a big river boat.
My cousin Jerry and his new wife Lisa, were married on a nice river boat cruise. After the cruise we all headed back for the dinner. Check out pictures; my cousin Morgan provided the predinner entertainment at our table. After dinner there was a little dancing, both Heather and I were exhausted from the traveling. I think we ended up in bed sometime around 10:30 and slept like rocks. (Heather says it's because we're getting old. :)
Sunday morning was interesting; somehow we were able to arrange for the O’connells and some of Lisa’s relatives all to eat at the same little restaurant. After a little bit of a wait, 15-20 some people all had breakfast together. During that time we passed one cell phone around and talked to my brother Tim since it was his birthday. We all wished him a happy birthday and a Happy 1st Anniversary to him and his wife Amanda.
After goodbyes and best of luck wishes to everyone , we headed back down south. We got to Southern IL and decided to call it a night. Funny thing is Heather tells me we stayed in the same town we stopped at four years ago for dinner when we went our first road trip together. It was at that Cracker Barrel in that town we had the famous "DTR" or defining the relationship conversation and decided to start officially dating. Who knew one little road trip together would lead to so much.
The next morning we headed back to Atlanta because I wanted to be back for my training class at NY Life. We got back with just enough time for me to change and enjoy the crazy afternoon traffic in Atlanta.
Since getting back from the wedding, I went to my first Braves game, although I would prefer to call it my first Brewers' road game since it was the Braves vs the Brewers. One of Heather's old coworkers was in town so Heather gave him her ticket and gave me a guys night out on the town. Oh and of course the Brewers won 4 to 3.
This past weekend I went golfing on an executive golf course with our insurance agent. I've had the chance to get to know him a little bit outside of the working world. Last Thursday I hosted a networking professionals event at a local restaurant near us, Cheeseburger in Paradise. I've spent a good amount of time trying to get this group up and running and the event had 10 people show up so I was pleased with the results. I am ultimately hoping this group will help me obtain additional business referrals . So far it’s been a positive response from those individuals who attended. It's also something Heather and I can do together on the professional front. She joined me at the first meeting and has been a good sounding board for ideas on how to keep the group up and running.
Summer is flying by and the 4th of July is here! Heather and I want to say thank you again to our friends and family that have fought for our country over the years. And we would especially like to say thank you to Heather's brother-in-law Adam (married to sister Janae that is expecting twin girls) who is currently over in Afghanistan. If you're reading this...THANKS ADAM! We hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th of July!
Till next time....
